About Us

The organization began more than twenty years ago with a small group gathered at the Kapiolani Park Tennis Courts for recreational play.  This group in time evolved into a club known as the Aloha Tennis Club that met occasionally one weekday afternoon, as well as on the weekends for social tennis.  Within the group, competitive tennis began and in time the Club created a tennis tournament known today as the Aloha Tennis Open.  The Aloha Tennis Open has been held at multiple venues on Oahu and recently at the UH Tennis Complex.

Over the past two decades, the Aloha Tennis Open has become associated with a larger international tennis tour, the GLTA World Tour.  The gay, lesbian, transgender communities as well as friends and family members now enjoy competitive tennis on an international scale.  The Aloha Tennis Open is one of numerous tournaments that culminate in an end of year championship match up of the tour's best.

Today, you can find members and friends participating in social and competitive tennis all over Oahu.  However, the group's home base remains as Kapiolani Park Tennis Courts.  The Aloha Tennis Association is a 2016 registered USTA CTA and a sponsor organization of the Aloha Tennis Open with the GLTA World Tour 2015-2016, committed to supporting USTA Hawaii events and fostering LGBT diversity in Hawaii's tennis community.
